Heatless Curls – Hairspiration Saturday

Hey Guys! So a couple of days ago I received a comment on my ‘Hair Essentials’ post. Now this comment was by Hanneledesma and it was a request on some heatless curls as I mentioned there are so many options. So without further a do, here are some of the many ways to create curls without the use of heat:

1) Foam Hair Roller Sticks

Now this is my personal favourite method and I use it all the time. They’re similar to traditional hair rollers but they’re made of foam and you can control how tight you want the curl to be without having to purchase different sized ones. To use them all you have to do is section off a piece of hair and wrap it around the roller. Then twist it at the scalp to stay in place. Use 1 for a tight curl or 2-3 for a looser curl or a beachy wave. I tend to leave them in over night as they do take a couple hours but be prepared to look like Medusa. They’re super easy to do yourself and really cheap to purchase!

2) Clips or Bobby Pins

Now this is a tedious method. It takes a lot of time to create but it is in turn free. All you have to do it simply twist a section of hair until it reaches your scalp and the bobby pin it in place. The main reason this takes long it due to the pinning in place. You will mostly need about 2 or 3 bobby pins or a clip and they do sometimes fall out. This one again takes a while however and isn’t ideal for overnight as the curls will get squashed. It is also a little confusing to do on your own.

Clips

3) Bananas, Water and Leave in Conditioner

Now this may sound odd but I threw this in as it’s a quick method. I think it’s cool and creative but it does give slightly looser waves. I saw this in one of Rclbeauty101 videos and thought it was genius. Basically what you do is you start by dampening your hair. You then apply the leave in conditioner to the hair you just dampened. Then wrap your hair around a banana the size of your choice (the smaller the banana the tighter the curl) and pin you hair in place. Wait about 1 minute or so until your hair is dry and then release the hair. Then move on to the rest of your head. Super simple!

Make sure to let me know how these methods go for you if you try them and what you found most successful. Also make sure to tag me on instagram ( my username is _makeup_lover_forever_ ) if you post any pics of you trying these methods!

Hair Essentials

Hey guys! So today I thought I’d post about something that’s very important to me. Hair! I love my hair and I love the things I can do with it but to make it look and feel good it has to be healthy. So here are my hair essentials if you’re trying to get your hair into better condition!

1) Anti-dandruf Shampoo

These shampoos are super effective at get your scalp healthy. This also helps to make your hair a lot healthier as your scalp is where your hair grows out of. They also help to heal split ends. I really recommend this one by a german brand called Linola which you will have also seen in my ‘Empties’ post.

Featured image

2) A Good Detangling Hairbrush

This is super important as a lot of hair brushes will simply rip out the knotted or weak hair whereas brushes like this ‘Tangle Teezer’ don’t. I love this brush by the way! It’s incredible!

Featured image

3) Bobby Pins

I personally find it really important to have a mix of firm and loose bobby pins. The loose bobby pins are perfect for buns but useless when it comes to otherwise securing hair, which is why firm bobby pins are also a staple.

Featured image

4) Small, Clear Hair Elastics

These are so important for when you’re doing updos or braids where you just don’t want your hair elastics to be seen.

Featured image

5) Scrunchies

Now even though you may not opt for these for your everyday look, they’re super important if you want to maintain healthy hair. When you tie up your hair in the evening always use a scrunchie as they are loose on your hair and give it space to breathe making it less fragile or breakable.

Featured image

6) Normal Hair Ties

Just your standard hairband for everyday use. I like to have some different colours as well as black to brighten up a look.

Featured image

7) A hair Donut

This for me is SUCH a staple. I love doing buns and these things are so versatile especially if you have them in different sizes.

Featured image

8) Dry Shampoo

This again is a real staple. You shouldn’t wash your hair more than every two day as it damages your hair and creates split ends. That’s why incase your hair naturally gets greasy rather fast then you need to own this!

Featured image

9) A Heat Protectant and Detangling Spray

Again, a MUST HAVE! If you use any kind of heat whether you’re curling, straightening or just blow drying your hair, you have to protect it!

Featured image

10) Hairspray

Pretty self explanatory. To help you keep your hairstyles locked in place throughout the day.

Featured image

11) Blow Dryer

Now I was debating whether or not I should put this on the list just because regularly blow drying your hair can again damage your hair and make it more brittle. But I realised that sometimes you may be in a rush and have to dry your hair fast. I would just recommend to limit how often you use a blow dryer. Try and let your hair air dry as often as possible. I mostly just let my hair air dry!

You may now be wondering why I didn’t add any styling tools such as a curling wand but I did this because styling tools are the main offenders for damaging your hair and nowadays there are just so many heat-less choices available.

Let me now in the comment section down below what some of your hair staples are and what you would have added or taken off of my list!

Makeup Monday – Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer Review

Hey guys! So my absolute favourite thing to do after buying something new is to test it out. It really doesn’t matter what it is but that’s always what I do! So I got this product just over two weeks ago and during the course of this half a month I’ve been testing it out almost everyday and now I think I’m finally sure on what my opinion is.

Featured image

The cost varies in stores but the average price is around £5.49. You can buy it on the following websites/stores:

Rimmel – £5.49

Superdrug – £5.49

Boots – £5.49

The concealer comes in a clear lipgloss-like tube with a dome applicator, which I particularly like because it’s easy to control the amount of product that you use. Over applying concealer is one of the biggest makeup mistakes that I was certainly guilty of in the past. The colour scheme is the same as the Rimmel ‘Wake Me Up Foundation’.

Featured image

The product is available in four different shades to match different skin tones. I personally use the lightest shade ivory but the other 3 shades in the line include true ivory, classic beige and soft beige. Ivory is a perfect match for my naturally pale skin tone.

I have to honestly admit that when I first got this concealer I wasn’t too impressed. I felt that whenever I tried to smooth in the concealer it would just kind of rub off. I later on found out that this only happened when I rubbed it in with my finger. I then tried using a brush but finally found that using a wet beauty blender worked the best. I also found that it worked better on under eye circles than spots but it does still work quite well which is good for me as I’m rather prone to spots.

Overall I’m impressed with this product and will happily repurchase it. The concealer is creamy but not thick. If you’ve ever tried the ‘Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer’ it’s a little like that but thinner. Never the less it does its job well. Also let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried this concealer and if you like it or not. Also let me know what other products you’d like me to review.

Empties – September 2015

Hey guys! So I’ve been collecting these empties for about the past three months. I’ve been wanting to do monthly empties but I’m not yet sure so comment down below which you guys would prefer – monthly or every couple of months? Anyway here’s the products I’ve used up recently.

Hair:

Alberto Balsam Raspberry Shampoo and Conditioner

I love this stuff! I’ve repurchased these products so many times and they just make my hair so soft, glossy and smooth! It makes my hair feel amazing and look even more incredible!

Featured image

Linola Anti Dandruff Shampoo

First off, I DO NOT have dandruff! But I like to use anti dandruff shampoos anyway because they’re especially god at keeping your scalp healthy. This means that your hair will also grow faster and healthier which is important to me!

Featured image

Body:

Astonish Coconut Hand wash

Nothing too special, it’s just a hand wash but I thought I would include it. It smells really good though!

Featured image

Balea Body Lotion

Again nothing special but wanted to include. Its very hydrating and makes skin feel super soft.

Featured image

Lips:

Burt’s Bees Revitalising Lip Balm

I LOVE this lip balm and I am definitely repurchasing! It smells like chocolate and blueberry and it just really deeply moisturises your lips from the second you put it on!

Featured image

Skin Care:

Biore Pore Strips

Not gonna lie, I hated this! They did not work for me at all even though I was following all the instructions. I don’t know what I did wrong but comment down below some other nose strips I could try!

Featured image

Body Shop Tea Tree Night Lotion

I’m still slightly on the fence with this. It peels off if you use it as your main moisturiser so I mixed it in with my regular night cream where it did not crease or peel off. That however I feel like maybe makes it less effective? Not so sure if I love this.

Featured image

Deep Action Blackhead Scrub

This is a great scrub and I will definitely will repurchase but it does not work after 1 day like it says on the packaging. Also make sure NOT to use it everyday because it will dry out your skin. Use it at max 3 times a week!

Featured image

Clearasil Rapid Action Toner

Loved this! It was amazing at cleansing my skin but it does tingle/burn a little when you first use it or if your skin is very dirty! Definitely recommend though!

Featured image

Masks:

Superdrug Yoghurt Smoothie Mask

This was great at moisturising my skin and also did really well at deeply nourish it as well!

Featured image

Superdrug Superfruit Clay Mask

This was alright. It made my skin very soft but didn’t do what it claimed it would.

Featured image

Superdrug White Chocolate Mousse Mask

I hated this! It burned really badly and it didn’t do anything suffice for my skin at all! Do not recommend!

Featured image

Cucumber Cooling Clay Mask

This was the best of the 4 masks! It deeply cleansed, moisturised, reduced redness and soothed my skin!

Mini Skin Care Haul

Hey Guys! So recently I’ve been on a huge skin care addiction! My skin has never been the best but recently I’ve been wanting that to change and therefore have been trialing a lot of different items. We went on holiday and OMG my skin improved sooo much! I cut out a lot of items which I know realize were way too harsh for my skin but also the sun just really helped to dry out and eliminate the pimples/spots which I have. I still do have a couple small pimples but the state of my skin is generally just so much better! I do have a couple acne scars which I’m now also working on but I’m really happy and confident with my skins new state! Because of this, I’ve also used up a lot of products so an empties video will be coming soon!

I purchased a total of 3 items and I’m actually testing out a brand completely new to me. I’m trying the products from simple which I know that a lot of people really love and they’re supposedly very good for your skin as they’re ‘simple’ and don’t contain a lot of products/chemicals in them. I also however got a product from a brand I’m familiar with – Nivea. I purchased these items from my local superdrug who are currently have a half off deal on most simple products right now.

But anyway here’s what I got:

1) Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Exfoliating Scrub – 150ml

£3.99

Featured image

According to the packaging, this product is optimal for normal or combination skin and should be used 2-3 times a week. It contains vitamin E and Hydra IQ both of which contribute to soft, smooth and moisturised skin. It’s also supposedly very mild and should make your skin look healthy. I haven’t seen a huge change in my skin yet but I have only use it twice so far.

2) Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Light Moisturiser – 125ml

£2.45
Featured imageFeatured image

All simple products contain vitamins and this one specifically contains Vitamin E and Pro-vitamin B5 both of which are incredibly important for your skin. Their products also don’t contain any artificial perfumes, colours or harsh chemicals. This specific moisturiser also contains SPF 15 which stops the aging of your skin. It also supposedly gives you protection for 12 hours. I love this stuff!

3) Simple Kind To Skin Vital Vitamin Night Cream – 50ml

£2.75

Featured imageFeatured image

This again contains the same vitamins as the moisturiser above as well as multi-vitamins. It restores, regenerates and replenishes your skin throughout the night, leaving your skin feeling healthy and giving it a natural glow. It’s especially good for sensitive skin and leaves your skin feeling super smooth.

I’m loving the things I picked up and would love to know what you guys think if you’ve tried them. I think my favourite of the three is probably the night cream followed by the scrub. Not that I dislike the other moisturiser!
